WCSD 2024-2025 Professional Learning Communities

Wayne County School District: 2024-2025 Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)  Summary/Description  The Wayne County School District's Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) focus on fostering a culture of collaboration among educators to improve teaching and learning. PLCs aim to engage students in rigorous, relevant content and promote critical thinking and problem-solving. These communities support professional development, individualized instruction, and continuous curriculum improvement to meet state standards. The district also emphasizes balanced literacy, differentiated instruction, and the inclusion of diverse students. Wayne County School District K-8 teachers will attend weekly school-level, monthly district-level, grade-level, and/or departmental PLCs during the 2024-2025 school year. WCHS 9-12 teachers will meet 3 times per week. These PLCs will be conducted in person and/or virtually. (Meeting dates will vary by schools.) The WCSD PLC meetings will continue to provide teachers with the opportunity to grow as professionals through weekly meetings designed to foster and promote collaboration as a school community. In an ongoing effort to positively impact student growth and learning, instructional emphasis will be placed on: connecting the curriculum across grade levels and content areas through close examination of the MCCRS; individualized learning paths to expand and/or remediate student learning in given skill areas; more targeted analysis of formative assessments and progress monitoring; working collaboratively to effectively use data and technology to increase student achievement; collaborating on lesson planning, curriculum alignment, and research- based strategies.
